Does MotoLens start recording automatically when I get on the bike?

No. MotoLens uses trip detection to notice when a ride starts and sends you a notification. Recording itself requires your input — one tap on the notification, or a Siri command. This is by design: you stay in control of what gets captured.

What happens if I switch apps while MotoLens is recording?

Recording continues. MotoLens uses iOS background execution APIs that allow it to keep an active recording session even when the app is not in the foreground. You can open Maps, Spotify, or any other app without interrupting the footage.

Does background recording drain the battery faster?

Yes, meaningfully so. Expect roughly 15 to 25 percent battery drain per hour depending on your iPhone model, GPS activity, and screen brightness. On rides longer than 90 minutes, a powered handlebar mount is the practical solution.

Why did my MotoLens recording stop mid-ride?

The most common causes are iOS memory pressure (too many apps open in the background), iPhone overheating from direct sunlight, or a recent iOS update that changed background execution behavior. Closing unused apps before a ride and keeping the phone shaded both help.
